SURVIVING THE SILLY SEASON AND STAYING IN SHAPE

Silly Season has officially begun. The madness awaits us. Have another drink. Have another mince pie. It's Christmas! Here is a survival guide to getting through Christmas without falling off track completely and losing all your hard earned gains.

1. Pick and choose your nights out

Don't feel obligated to go to every night out that you are invited to. Think about who you want to spend your time with. Close friends and family should top the list. It's unnecessary to go boozing with your work colleagues 3 nights in a row.

2. Keep track of your drinks

Alcohol is very high in calories and it's easy to consume 2,000+ calories on a night out.

Pint of Beer: 200 Calories

Glass of Wine: 160 Calories

Vodka and Coke/7up/Orange: 180 Calories

Choose light beers if possible as these are lower in calories and alcohol. Coors Light only has 100 calories. Stay away from craft beers as these are very calorie dense. They are often stronger than regular beers and give nasty hangovers. Replace the sugary mixers with diet versions. Prosecco only contains 80 calories a glass which is a handy alternative to drinking wine. Also stay away from rounds as well as it's very easy to lose track of what you are drinking that way. Dare I also suggest drinking water in between drinks?

3. Ditch the post boozing feed

Stumbling down Grafton St with half a kebab all over your face sounds like a great idea at the time. However, your post boozing feed can easily add another 1,000 calories to your daily intake. If you need to eat something then have something that's high in protein, and low in fat and carbs. A Burrito Bowl from Tolteca always does the job.

4. Plan your meals for the next day

Avoid the temptation to order Dominos the next day by having your meals prepped already. Fail to prepare and prepare to fail. If you cannot resist the urge for some takeaway then at least try and choose a healthy-ish option like Thai food. Camile Thai has options on their menu that are all under 600 calories.

5. Tackle your hangover with some light exercise

Don't lie in bed the next day feeling sorry for yourself. Go for a relaxing walk or a nice swim. Release those endorphins! If you have access to a sauna or a steam room then use this to sweat out all the alcohol from the night before. You will feel better for it.
